How does it work?
Our apprenticeship preparatory program is structured to ensure our students are ready for the workforce.
Year 1 (which is usually Year 11)
In year 1 the student concentrates on their SACE studies. In our curriculum, we encourage the students to work hard early on, meaning they fulfil their SACE obligations quickly.
- They also go through the Try-a-Trade program, which is designed to give them a taste of many trades until they find one they are suited to.
- Students take on work experience, which further fine tunes their interest in a trade career.
They take on an apprenticeship, while continuing to receive trade training at the College.
Year 2
By this stage, the student has completed their SACE studies.
- They continue their apprenticeship, but in a different way to a traditional school-based apprenticeship – they’re more with their employer than the College.
- They’re now the equivalent of a first-year apprentice.
Year 3
By Year 3 the student is a full-time apprentice into their second-year. They continue their training at a Certificate III level with an RTO.
Year 4
In Year 4, they’re now a full-time apprentice and there is no off the job training.
One of the benefits of studying at MTC is that, by having completed their SACE, they are able to undertake further study or part-time University units.
